New Charge Unit Bmx/Skate Park is almost finished

4 months hard graft and we are almost there. featuring one of the biggest if not the biggest indoor jump boxes in the UK, dubbed the “rhino Box” it has a 6ft take off to almost 8ft high humped landing, the humped landing makes it safer to try big tricks. The rhino Box is has had it’s fair share of use already in perfecting the beast, back flips, cliff hangers and double tail whips have been the favourites.

The main run starts off with a 11ft roll in, hitting a 5ft to 6ft mini Rhino box, then straight after that is the big 8ft Rhino box, then there is a 16ft Vert Wall. After riding the wall  you can choose your line over a smaller 5ft jump box to spine back to 8ft quarter or hit the hip to the 5ft midi ramp and street section .

The street side has a long two level hubbas, going down two levels.  The other side has a 5.5ft flatbank and in between there is a double level ledge and movable pieces like manual pad, small rail, and kickers.  Plus small jump box and spine for beginners that can be moved.

There will also be a foam pit built at the back soon, at the front there will be a mezzanine floor for viewing and relaxing with a cafe, video games, pool table and other entertainment. There will also be a shop for spares and accessories.

We hope to open on the 1st May and soon after hold demos and competitions inviting the Pros to ride the park putting on show for the locals.

 

 

Team Profile – Brett Wheeler

Hi my name’s Brett wheeler I’m 26 years young and I’m from Bournemouth in Dorset. My whole life I have had 2 wheels between my legs, at 2 i was riding push bikes with no stabilisers and at 4 years old my dad bought me a Yamaha PW50.
For the next 20 years my life was Moto X doing all the major youth nationals then progressing to the adults where my racing improved winning 8 local championships, 1 south west champs and having a 7th in 2007 125 British champs and a 6th in 2008.
I then took up mountain bike dirt jumping in 2011 and progressed quickly picking up some good sponsors and in 2012 I was competing in major UK competitions. Unfortunately at round 1 I badly broke my leg and had to give up the dirt jumping. In October 2012 I was introduced to downhill mountain biking and really enjoyed it, it gave me the feelings I used to get when I raced motocross. There’s such a rush racing through trees fast and riding through rock gardens at high speed. At the end of 2012 I entered some races in the seniors with each race progressing with better positions.

October 2012 – Southern champs – 18th place
November 2012 – UK bike park series rd1 – 3rd place

My 2013 season has been going a lot better having raced 3 more races in the seniors,

Woodlands winter series rd 1 – 4th place with 40 riders in my class
Forest of dean – 8th place with 90 riders in my class
Woodlands winter series rd2 – 6th place with 36 riders in my class
Forest of dean rd 2 – 8th place with 90 riders in my class

I am really enjoying racing downhill and after 5 months of riding I’m happy with my progress and can hopefully keep on progressing to the front and will also be riding the first British national at Combe Syd in Devon in April.

Powerband Racing Team go 1,2,3 in the final Redbull standings

The last round of 2012 Redbull Nationals concluded at Culham Motopark at the weekend which saw some epic racing. Charge supported Powerband Racing team 65cc top duo Tom Grimshaw & Christopher Mills produced some nail biting moments throughout the weekend, but it all came down to the last moto of the championship when Tom was able to ride through the difficult condition to clinch the race win & championship from Christopher who experienced some bike problems 3 laps from the end and was then unable to continue. Both boys have had there difficulty’s this year, and have both shared a DNF each which made for some tense and exciting moments throughout the year.

Powerband’s other star rider SW85cc George Grigg Pettitt finished of a great second half of the season by clinching 3rd overall in one of the most competitive classes. George really showed some great speed by topping qualification and producing some great rides throughout the weekend to nail 3rd overall i the championship.
